What is Computer Network with example
A Computer Network is basically two or more Computers connected together for exchanging information.
The need of Computer Network
Computer Networks are created for sharing resources. There are three types of resources –
1. Hardware Sharing
2. Software Sharing
3. Data Sharing
1. Hardware Sharing
Suppose there is an office where work is going on some computers and all computers are working separately. Now users doing work on these computers are needed some Hardware devices like a Printer or Scanner then we have to make the available Printer separately. If we give the Printer separately then think about what will be the cost. suppose there are 10 Computers or 100 Computers, Company has to pay a huge cost. This is happening because of no Computer Network.

Now Look at another scenario There is an office where work is going on some computers but Computers are connected together by a Network and on anyone PC we have connected a Printer so that the printer has shared on Network Now all PC on that Network can use that Printer. So what has happened to it? Now we do not need to purchase separate Printers for all PCs, instead, we can work with a single Printer. By this example, you can think how much the cost will decrease. This is called Hardware Sharing.

2. Software Sharing
Suppose there is an office where work is going on some Computers. If Company has its personal Software so we have to install software on all PCs but the storage of all PCs will decrease and the performance of all PCs will decrease too, Second thing is, we have to back up data every day so the workload will also increase.
Now Look at another scenario there is an office where work is going on some Computers. But all the Computers are connected together by a network and the software is not installed on all PCs. instead, Software is installed on Central Server, and all PCs start using that software by the Server. By this, all PCs increased storage capacity so performance increases. This is called Software Sharing.

3. Data Sharing
Exchanging information over Network is called Data sharing. Data sharing is done in various ways. Internet is a good example of data sharing where we can share information in various ways like Email, chatting, Cloud Computing, web Servers, VPN, etc

Types of Computer Networks
1. LAN : Local Area Network
2. WAN : Wide Area Network
3. PAN : Personal Area Network
4. MAN : Metropolitan Area Network
