Data transmission is the process of sending and receiving data between two or more devices. Data is transmitted among network devices using one of the two methods parallel and serial transmission. First of all we have to know about transmission medium.

A channel is a Medium used to carry data or information from sender to receiver. A channel is a sub part of Transmission Medium.

In Serial Transmission each bit of character (Byte or 8 bits) is sent one after another over one channel.

In Parallel Transmission each character (Byte or 8 bits) is transmitted over multiple channel.

Data Transfer Rate
Data transfer rate represents the amount of data transferred per second by transmission channel. It represents in kbps, mbps, gbps etc.
