Modem, Repeater, and Gateway
Modem, Repeater and Gateway are the Network devices. Which are used to connect two or more networks together as required. The detailed description are given below-
ModemÂ
The modem is a device that performs Modulation and Demodulation. Word Modem becomes from two words Modulator and De-modulator. It is a device that helps to transmit data from one computer to another over the Internet.
Â
Data itself can not travel it requires a carrier signal because data is in the form of digital signal but telephone lines transmit analog signals.
So Modem modulates data onto analog signal then it can travel over a telephone line.
And at receiving point Modem demodulate Data from the analog signal.
Hence, To send and receive data over the internet Modem is required.

RepeaterÂ
The repeater is a network device that is used to regenerate the signal. It operates at the Physical layer of the OSI Model.
In-Network transmission media when a signal is transmitted. It gets attenuated (weaken) and these weak signals can not travel long distances. So we use Repeater in the network.
Repeater amplifies the attenuated (weaken) signal and retransmit it so that it can travel farther.
The repeater does some other work like filter noise caused by other signals and reshapes the signal.

Gateway
Gateway is a device sometimes a router or any computer is used to connect different protocol-based networks.
Suppose any company using LAN as their private network. Now they want to access the internet to their LAN. But both networks have different architectures and using different protocols.
So they need a device that can connect both dissimilar networks, here Gateway performs its work and connect them. Â
